My Educational Experiences
From the time I was little, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I taught my teddy bears, my dogs, and even forced my younger brother to participate in "pre-preschool" lessons (complete with spontaneous fire drills!). Ask anyone around me and they will tell you that my love of teaching is an inseparable part of who I am.
As a student, I have had the opportunity to experience a variety of educational environments ranging from traditional public schools to private schools. For my 8th grade year, I began attending a charter school as a home schooling student. I took a few classes at an academy and my mom taught me my remaining subjects. I loved the program so much that in high school, I began attending the charter school as a full-time student.
Fast forward five years from high school graduation, and I found myself with a bachelor's degree, teaching credential, and master's degree ready to find my first teaching job. My positive experience in high school encouraged me to pursue a position at a charter school for a teaching position. I walked with my Master's Degree in Digital Teaching and Learning on July 30, 2014 and was hired at Julian Charter School on August 2, 2014.

My time at Julian Charter School has been an incredible opportunity to grow as an educator and learn so much about the uniqueness and individuality of charter schools. Having attended a charter school as a student, I was able to directly relate to my students and understand what they needed from an educator. Having been a home-schooled student for my middle school years, I was able to help counsel my student's parents as they struggled with holding on and letting go of their student's learning experiences.
In the summer of 2016, I had a unique opportunity presented to me. My school created a Math Instructional Coach position to help support parents, teachers, and students in their math journeys. This opportunity intrigued me, but I was hesitant to say goodbye to my students. I applied for and ultimately accepted the position and was excited to see where this new journey would take me.

When I accepted the Math Coach position, I did not realize how much it would allow me to grow professionally and expand my educational horizons. I love it and I am flourishing in the position. Brainstorming with teachers, partnering with parents, and still getting to interact with students during classroom visits is a true joy for me. I am able to combine my passion for education, my love of technology, and my desire to be a lifelong learner into one great professional experience.
